New Fire Hazard Severity Zone Maps

The California Office of the State Fire Marshal released its 2025 Recommended Local Responsibility Area Fire Hazard Severity Zone map for the state of California, including Irvine. The maps are developed by Cal Fire using the latest climate data, fire history, topography, and wildfire modeling to classify areas as Moderate, High, Or Very High fire hazard zones.

Your review and input is needed on the maps, as required by California law. The City of Irvine invites community members to explore the maps and contribute your local knowledge through the public comment survey. Your feedback is a vital part of ensuring the classifications of the map are accurate for our community.

California Government Code Section 51179 (b)(3) states that the City cannot lower the hazard level designated by the Office of the Fire Marshal; however the City of Irvine does have the option to increase hazard levels or expand designated areas based on local conditions and knowledge.
