Assistance Programs

A variety of free consulting programs are available for older adults. Meet one-on-one with trained professionals. Appointments are required. AARP Tax Foundation Assistance (Seasonal)

AARP Foundation provides free tax assistance to individuals with low to moderate incomes, with special attention to those 60 and older. Services are provided by a team of trained and certified volunteers at Lakeview Senior Center. AARP representatives may not be able to prepare returns with certain, more complex types of income or expenses. Appointment required; appointments do not a guarantee service.

Adaptive Telephone Distribution

California Telephone Access Program (CTAP) provides free telephone equipment to qualifying Californians with difficulties in seeing, hearing, speaking, remembering, or moving. Free hearing screening and certification for CTAP application will be provided on-site. Registration required.

Income-qualifying seniors 60 and older receive a free non-perishable box of food. Sponsored by Community Action Partnership. Self-reported income and photo ID with proof of age required.

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP)

Hearing Screening

This 20–minute screening will help you evaluate your hearing to determine if you need a hearing aid or if your current hearing aid is the right fit. Please bring hearing aids. No appointment required. Sponsored by Sonus Hearing.

Individual Medication Review

What’s in your medicine cabinet? Pharmacists will review medications for dosage strength and frequency, correct usage, and potential interactions or duplications. Bring your questions along with daily medications, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements to your appointment. Sponsored by OCOAS. Registration required.
