City of Irvine outdoor park spaces remain open for passive use, and visitors must practice social distancing, following federal guidelines to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). COVID-19 is spread through close person-to-person contact, and the Centers for Disease Control warns that some spread might be possible before people show symptoms. The City of Irvine offers adult sports leagues (softball, soccer and basketball); tennis lessons, leagues and tournaments for all ages; provides athletic fields for more than 25 Irvine-based non-profit youth sports organizations; and facilitates several world class events and elite sports tournaments. The section currently manages 40 soccer fields, 41 ball diamonds and 87 tennis courts.
