The Irvine Police Department Teen Community Police Academy (CPA) provides an in-depth look into the day-to-day operations of a law enforcement agency. Participants are invited to look behind the scenes in four-hour classes, over five consecutive days. Provided in both classroom and hands-on format, each meeting offers a snapshot of the operation and function of various divisions, bureaus, and units of the Department.
Participants in the program will learn about and interact with:
- Traffic Enforcement
- K-9 Officer
- Criminal Investigations
- Crime Scene Investigation
- Emergency Management
- Special Weapons and Tactics
- Training and Use of Force
- ...and much more!
Teen CPA instructors are Department executive command personnel, supervisors, police officers, and professional civilian support staff.
By the end of the five days, each student graduates with a better understanding of how the Irvine Police Department serves our community.
Requirements and Application
All Teen CPA applicants must be 14 to 18 years of age and must have completed eighth grade at the time of the class. Applicants should live or attend school in Irvine, or have ties to the City. Students may not have had any misdemeanor arrests within one year of applying, and must be free of any felony arrests. Students must also pass a background check including, Live Scan fingerprinting. Participants must attend all classes. Additionally, the following two waivers must be submitted:
- Teen CPA Waiver for Personal Injury Release and Hold Harmless Agreement
- Video Authorization Waiver and Release
