Community Police Academy

Upcoming 2023 Dates:
April 11 – June 6, 2024

The Irvine Police Department is excited to announce an upcoming in-person Community Police Academy (CPA). The purpose of the Community Police Academy is to provide our community members with an opportunity to engage with IPD personnel and learn more about the day-to-day operations of the Irvine Police Department, such as traffic enforcement, patrol responses to emergency calls for service and special assignments such as Detectives, K9s, and SWAT. We provide our students with insight and information regarding the roles and responsibilities of police officers through classroom instruction, hands-on activities, and live demonstrations. The 9-week class will be held on Thursday nights, April 11, to June 6, 2024, from 6:00 PM- 9:00 p.m. at the Irvine Police Department.

Our CPA Instructors comprise Department Command Staff members, supervisors, veteran police officers, and professional support staff. By the end of the nine weeks, our students will graduate with a better understanding of how the Irvine Police Department serves our community and how they can work collaboratively with the Irvine Police Department to prevent crimes in their neighborhoods.

All CPA applicants must be at least 18 years of age and live or work in the City of Irvine. Applicants should not have any misdemeanor arrests or significant police contact within one year and be free of felony arrests. Applicants must also complete a background check, including Live Scan fingerprinting.

To participate, please complete and submit the application form.
