Irvine Police Investigating a Fatal Traffic Collision

Irvine, Calif. (May 20, 2023) – A man has died after his vehicle collided with a tree.

Today, at 4:05 a.m., the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to reports of a single-vehicle traffic collision on Harvard Avenue, near University Drive.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a black and silver Mercedes S550 sedan that collided with a tree and was on fire. OCFA was able to extinguish the fire, but unfortunately, the driver and solo occupant did not survive. His identity will be withheld pending notification of next of kin.

IPD's Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of this collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Joshua Balos at 949-724-7024.
