The Irvine Police Department has arrested a man and a woman who broke into a car parked at 24 Hour Fitness. Andrew James Gomez, 21, and Kristina Michelle Gomez, 20, both of Bakersfield were arrested Monday, April 29, in Downey.
On the morning of April 29, Irvine Police responded to a call of a theft from vehicle in which the victim’s car window was smashed while she was inside the 24 Hour Fitness on the 8000 block of Irvine Center Drive. The victim reported that items including a laptop were stolen from the vehicle.
An observant witness saw the crime occur and took a photo of the involved vehicle, including the license plate. That evidence along with video obtained from the fitness center identified a silver Honda Civic as the suspect vehicle.
Detectives were able to trace the vehicle to the city of Downey, where they contacted the suspects. Items stolen from the car at 24 Hour Fitness as well as other stolen property, including multiple credit cards not belonging to the suspects, were located. The credit cards were later confirmed to have been stolen from other victims.
Andrew Gomez was arrested on charges including vehicle burglary and possession of stolen property. Kristina Gomez was arrested for possession of stolen property and identity theft. The suspects are not related.
