Solutions for Mosquito Issues and Irvine

The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District encourages residents to utilize many do-it-yourself methods to eliminate mosquitoes and mosquito-related issues. These include taking steps to prevent mosquito breeding, protecting yourself and family from mosquitoes, and treating for mosquito bites.

Prevent Mosquito Breeding: Eliminate the Source
Because many mosquitoes breed in small water sources, eliminating these sources can greatly reduce the number of mosquitoes around your home. Search around your property for any standing water (both indoors and outdoors) and discard any unused containers. Also, be sure to clean and scrub any unused containers thoroughly to remove any mosquito eggs.

Protect Yourself from Mosquitoes
Additionally, taking the following steps can help prevent mosquito contact and bites:

  • Keep doors and windows closed, or ensure screens are free of holes and tears
  • Wear an EPA-approved insect repellent to prevent bites
