Irvine, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2016) – The coyote responsible for biting a 6-year-old boy in Springbrook Park in Irvine on October 9 has been trapped and euthanized. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) used scientific evidence in determining the identification.

Following the incident in the Woodbridge area, the Irvine Police Department worked with CDFW and the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife to aggressively address this issue. These joint efforts led to the trapping of 12 coyotes since the time of the incident. Trapping efforts have ceased, however the Irvine Police Department Animal Services division will continue to patrol the area.
