Irvine City Council Does Not Reach Agreement for COVID-19 Testing

At its meeting on May 26, the Irvine City Council unanimously voted to not approve a contract with US Health Fairs for drive-up COVID-19 testing after it could not reach an agreement with the nonprofit organization.

The Council also directed City staff to continue with vigorous efforts to find and implement a universal COVID-19 testing program for Irvine which will provide quality testing that protects the health and well-being of Irvine residents.

COVID-19 testing is currently provided for many, but not all, residents through the County of Orange and the State at multiple locations.

No-cost testing is available for symptomatic and asymptomatic health care workers, first responders, social service workers and other essential workers who have been unable to get tested through their health care providers or employers at four sites in Orange County. Residents can make an appointment at a testing site in Buena Park, Orange, Santa Ana or San Juan Capistrano, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In addition, testing is also available through the OC COVID-19 Testing Network. Anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms can make an appointment at one of more than a dozen sites throughout Orange County including UC Irvine Health.
