Irvine Police Arrest Man Who Took Inappropriate Photos of Women

Irvine, Calif. (November 16, 2016) – Irvine Police Officers have arrested a HomeGoods store employee who was caught taking photos underneath a female customer’s skirt.

On November 12, a customer at the HomeGoods store located at 6214 Irvine Blvd. felt her skirt move. She looked back and saw Matthew Torres, 22, of Irvine holding a cellphone faced toward and up her skirt. When she confronted Torres, he ran toward a restricted area of the store. Officers arrived and contacted Torres, who admitted to the activity and consented to a search of his phone. Police discovered a high number of inappropriate photographs, and the victim was able to identify photos of herself. The suspect was taken into custody after the victim signed a citizen’s arrest.

The Irvine Police Department (IPD) is asking female customers who have visited the store since September who believe they may have been a victim to contact Detective Sarah Tunnicliffe at 949-724-7170 or stunnicliffe@cityofirvine.org. Police believe there are dozens of potential victims in this case. HomeGoods store management has cooperated in this investigation and is also assisting IPD in identifying potential victims.
