Three Suspects Arrested for Possession of Stolen Property

Irvine, CA – The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has arrested three suspects for possession of stolen property. The suspects are identified as Chad Clausson, 35, of Fullerton, Laurieal Sellers, 23, of Westminster, and Derrick Trent, 35, of Santa Ana.

In the early morning of May 30, 2016, four vehicles burglaries occurred in the area of the Irvine Spectrum Apartments. Property was stolen from unlocked vehicles and locked vehicles that had windows smashed.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., one of the victims contacted IPD to report the burglary after discovering property missing from his car, including a smartphone. At approximately 10:30 p.m., the victim reported his stolen phone was tracking to a hotel in Costa Mesa.

The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) responded to the hotel and identified the room in which the suspects were staying. When CMPD officers knocked on the hotel room door, the suspects began throwing stolen property, including credit and access cards, out of the back window of the room.  Trent then exited the room and was contacted by CMPD.

IPD arrived at the scene and conducted a search of the suspect vehicle, described as a gray Toyota Tacoma with a camper shell and black wheels. Officers also contacted Clausson and Sellers inside the hotel room and conducted a search. Stolen property was located in the vehicle and hotel room including electronics, laptops, access and credit cards, passports, clothing, and other items.

The suspects were all arrested without incident. At the time of their arrest, all three suspects had warrants for their arrest. Clausson had a warrant for a parole violation. Sellers had warrants for petty theft, shoplifting and drugs. Trent had a warrant for driving without a license.

The investigation is ongoing.

Thanks to the Costa Mesa Police Department for their partnership and assistance in this case.
