Irvine Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect

Irvine, CA (July 15, 2015): The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has arrested a suspect one day after he committed a robbery in an Irvine bank. Michael Ladon Sheppard, 53, Gardena, was arrested today, July 15, 2014, and is being held on $100,000 bail.

At approximately 10:40 a.m. on July 14, 2015, a suspect entered the Union Bank at 5311 University Drive. He approached a teller, verbally demanded money and then fled the scene on foot.

No weapon was seen in the robbery and no one was injured. IPD and the Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to investigate the case.

This morning, July 15, 2015, an IPD sergeant was conducting a patrol check in the area of the Parkwood Apartments and observed a male matching the description of the bank robbery suspect standing outside an apartment unit. Sheppard was contact and found in possession of some of the stolen currency. He was arrested at the scene.

Sergeant Shaheen Jahangard, who located the suspect, is a 9-year veteran of the Department and had been promoted to sergeant only one day earlier, on the same day as the bank robbery.
