Ceramics Open Studio

The Ceramics Studio is fully equipped with three large gas kilns firing at Cone 10, two low-fire electric kilns firing at Cone 06, and a Raku kiln. More than a dozen wheels line the perimeter of the studio along with two slab rollers, a spray booth, and damp room.

Studio technicians maintain scheduled bisque and glaze firings for work produced in the studio. In addition, assorted glazes are provided in the studio’s glaze room and stoneware clay is available for purchase.

Previous studio experience and closed-toe shoes are required. Participants must be 18 years or older. For more information, please call the Irvine Fine Arts Center front desk at 949-724-6880.

HOW TO OBTAIN CERTIFICATION AND PARTICIPATE IN OPEN STUDIO

1.  Complete one full course at the Irvine Fine Arts Center or a refresher course.
2.  Pass a quiz to demonstrate your level of understanding of studio use.
3.  Register for a studio session and sign the Open Studio Agreement with registration.

Certification is required to participate in the Open Studio program. Certification is valid for one year and regular quarterly participation is required to maintain status. Regular participation ensures that individuals are up to date with IFAC studio policies and procedures including approved materials for usage, protocols for studio equipment usage, and safety requirements. If participation lapses for an extended period of over one quarter, individuals may be required to take a Refresher class and quiz to gain recertification.
