In Family Ties: Hispanic Heritage Celebration, a group of Hispanic and Latino artists of diverse creative disciplines who reflect on the stories of their family histories through various mediums and processes.

Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA)

MOLAA will present an art station which will explore the concepts of color and movement in art by arranging vertical strips of colored paper on a black craft kite to produce the illusion of depth and movement on a 2D surface. The community project is inspired by the work of Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez.

UCI Libraries

The UCI Libraries: Special Collections and Archives presents three exhibits with ties to local Hispanic history and culture.

  • Handmade Art Books Collection: A collection of artists' books dating from the 1960s to the present encompassing nearly all aspects of the genre from "normal" published works to altered, sculptural, painted, and unique books. This display of artists books will focus on works produced in Latin American countries or by Latino artists.

  • Chicano History Exhibition: An exhibition display that surveys the regional history of Chicano culture through photography and text, documenting both the origins of Chicano culture to the contemporary.

  • Agricultural Experience: An exhibition display that showcases and honors the Hispanic experience as it pertains to the agricultural history of the region.

The inaugural Fiesta Latina en Irvine event honors Hispanic Heritage Month, designated by the federal government and observed September 15-October 15. According to the official website hosted by the Library of Congress, the observance celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America."
