The City of Irvine's Community Services Department hosts a variety of special events including concerts, ceremonies, the Irvine Global Village Festival, pet adoptions and more. Northwood Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony
Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for Americans to honor those who have given their lives while defending our nation. The Northwood Memorial Candle Lighting Ceremony, held in partnership with the Northwood Memorial Committee, will include a dedication ceremony for an expansion of the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial, as well as presentations by Gold Star families. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating.

Memorial Day Ceremony
The City of Irvine will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony in the Formal Garden at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park. Attendees will have the opportunity to honor family and friends who have died in the line of duty by writing down a brief remembrance to be posted on a memory board at the event. Cards will also be available for well-wishers to send a message of appreciation and support to members of Irvine’s adopted 2/11 Marine Battalion.

Studio Arts Festival
The Irvine Fine Arts Center will host the 23rd annual Studio Arts Festival. The juried festival will showcase more than 85 Southern Californian artists and their original works of art in ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, painting, photography, fiber and glass. The festival will also feature music, art demonstrations and food, including ice cream sundaes served in handmade collectible ceramic bowls. Admission and parking are free. Super Pet Adoption
More than 40 pet rescue groups and animal shelters will bring more than 600 homeless dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals for adoption. This annual event features dozens of vendors, gourmet food trucks and a bake sale, a silent auction, and low-cost microchipping. Each animal available for adoption is spayed or neutered, microchipped and evaluated by a veterinarian. Cats and dogs are vaccinated appropriate to age. Suggested donation for the event is $2 per person or $5 per family; parking is free. Leashed and vaccinated dogs are welcome. Event proceeds benefit the Irvine Animal Care Center in its efforts to provide care and support to thousands of homeless, neglected and abused animals each year. World's Largest Swimming Lesson
Join the City of Irvine as hundreds of aquatic centers, waterparks, pools and other facilities in more than 20 countries on five continents work together to spread the message that swimming saves lives. Arrive at 5:30 p.m. to sign up for the 6 p.m. lesson. Then, stay afterward for a recreation swim and screening of the movie Sing on the big screen.

Pacific Symphony in the Cities
Enjoy a free outdoor concert featuring the Pacific Symphony, led by Music Director Carl St.Clair. A Musical Playground with interactive activities for children takes place at 6:30 p.m. and includes making an instrument, playing a drum, meeting a musician, plus a conducting clinic with Maestro St.Clair. Bring low-back chairs, blankets, a picnic or purchase treats from one of the gourmet food trucks onsite.
