2024 State of the City Address

Mayor Khan Delivers Final State of the City Address
Wednesday, March 20, 2024

On March 19, Mayor Farrah N. Khan delivered her final State of the City Address at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Topics included a reflection on 2023 achievements, her vision for 2024 and beyond as California’s 13th largest city, and her legacy in the City.

In her address, Mayor Khan reiterated her commitment to economic development, innovation, and health and wellness. Her steadfast approach to sustainability was showcased through the City’s Climate Action and Adaption Plan, as well as the closure of All American Asphalt and the subsequent development of Gateway Preserve. She praised the City’s numerous capital improvement projects and their role in economic growth and enhancement of public spaces, like the Great Park. The nearly billion-dollar investment will skyrocket Irvine’s place on the map as one of the best municipal parks in the world.

"In my final State of the City Address, I couldn’t help but reflect on how much the City has grown and accomplished in the last four years,” said Mayor Farrah N. Khan. “I’m beyond humbled and extremely proud that I have been able to lead the City of Irvine and create a more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative community. I’m excited to see Irvine’s future come to fruition and watch my legacy, the Irvine Accelerator and Innov8, take their foundation and develop roots for the future of the City.”

Khan spoke to her legacy, the creation of the Irvine Accelerator, an innovative public-private partnership between the City and Sunstone Management. The accelerator will help put Irvine on the map as a premier location for individuals seeking to find and establish high-tech and future-focused business ventures and will take its foundation later this year. She also highlighted her initiation and support of establishing Innov8, the first innovation hub led by women for women. Innov8 will be established later this year, housed at Karma Automotive, and run by CerraCap Ventures' nonprofit arm, CerraCares. These major milestones are critical to strengthening economic development in Irvine, facilitated through her establishment of an Innovation Council in 2021. Together with many other initiatives, they provide a roadmap to delivering a bright and prosperous path for future generations to come.

This year's event, hosted for the third time at the Irvine Barclay Theatre, included performances by community organizations, Arpana Dance Company, Viorhythm, Centered Kingdom Theatre Project, and Chinese Dance Company of Southern California.
