Wednesday, November 29, 2023

The City of Irvine is pleased to announce a new Art at City Hall exhibition, Paul Gardner: A Retrospective, which celebrates the contributions and work of the late Paul Gardner, a visionary artist who had a profound impact in cultivating the local art scene in Orange County. Paul Gardner: A Retrospective opens Monday, December 11, and concludes Friday, March 22. An opening reception will be held Thursday, January 11, 4–6 p.m., at Irvine City Hall.

For over two decades, Gardner contributed to the cultural landscape of Irvine by teaching painting at the Irvine Fine Arts Center. Gardner’s artistic creations offer a contemporary and abstract interpretation of our world, capturing the essence of fluidity, forms, and vitality. Whether inspired by water’s graceful flow or the dynamic energy of music, sound, and movement, his work transports viewers to immersive environments.

Through a celebratory exploration of his life’s work, Paul Gardner: A Retrospective showcases the deep connection Gardner had with his surroundings and demonstrates his unique blend of intuition and improvisation, inviting audiences to embark on an imaginative journey alongside him.

Art at City Hall is an ongoing series of art exhibitions bringing artwork from local exhibiting artists to Irvine City Hall. Exhibitions focus on art with an Irvine perspective, featuring artists of all age groups and a variety of media types, with new exhibitions opening seasonally.

City Hall is open to the public 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday. The exhibition, parking, and opening reception are free and open to the public. For more information, visit cityofirvine.org/artatcityhall.
