City of Irvine Seeks Applicants for Four Positions on Child Care Committee

The City of Irvine is accepting applications for four volunteer positions on the Irvine Child Care Committee: two government, civic or community representatives, and two provider representatives.

The Irvine Child Care Committee acts in an advisory capacity to the Community Services Commission, recommending initiatives on the availability of quality, affordable child care and education in Irvine. The full Committee includes five City Council appointees; two community child care providers; two parents/guardians; three education liaison appointees from Irvine Unified School District, University of California, Irvine and Irvine Valley College; and two government, civic or community representatives.

Applicants must be willing to commit to a two-year term of active service. Irvine Child Care Committee meetings are held the second Tuesday of select months (at least six times a year) from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Heritage Park Community Center or other Irvine locations.

Completed applications must be received by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29. Applications may be mailed or hand-delivered to:

Mission and Purpose

The Child Care Committee is a public advisory body that reports to the Community Services Commission, providing input on child care-related issues, developing recommendations and initiatives as they relate to the availability of quality and affordable child care and early childhood education in Irvine.

The committee works in a cooperative relationship with the support of the Community Services Commission, the Child Care Coordination Office and the Community Development Department to enhance child care and early childhood education, provide outreach and to serve as a liaison to the community as a whole.

Composition

The committee is comprised of 15 voting members consisting of liaison and appointee representatives. The liaison members represent three educational organizations; two members represent government, civic or community; two members represent center-based or home-based child care providers; and two members represent parents/guardians. The appointee members represent five City Council appointees and one representative from the Community Services Commission.
