On January 23, 2018, the Irvine City Council approved Ordinance 18-02, creating Title 4 Division 22 (Commercial Cannabis Testing Laboratories) of the Irvine Municipal Code, which allows cannabis testing laboratories in the City of Irvine. No other type of commercial cannabis business activity is permitted, including manufacturing, distribution, cultivation, or micro business.

Irvine City Council unanimously voted Tuesday to direct its legal counsel to immediately commence litigation against the county to stop a proposal by the Board of Supervisors to create a homeless

The Orange County Great Park is owned by the City of Irvine. The 1,300 acres are part of the former U.S. Marine base that operated in Irvine until June 1999. Of that 1,300 acres, a public-private partnership with FivePoint is underway to develop parkland. This public-private partnership involves 688 acres. Of that 688 acres, in August 2017, the first phase of the 194-acre Sports Park opened. The opening involved 53 acres.

It is anticipated that nearly all 688 acres will be completed by the end of 2019, with one component, a golf course, into 2020.
