Irvine Seeks Resident Feedback on District Focus Maps

As the City of Irvine continues its pursuit of City Council district elections, the City is actively engaging residents to ensure their voices are heard in creating the boundaries of the future voting districts. In October, the City Council plans to adopt a new map in accordance with the FAIR MAPS Act and use public input received throughout the process to guide their decision. The adopted map will be included on the March 2024 ballot.

On July 11, the City Council selected six focus maps to consider throughout the process, including maps 126, 133, 135, 136, 138, and 144. Following the public hearing, the City’s demographer created maps 146, 147, and 148 based on feedback provided by the City Council. Residents are encouraged to review the focus maps and share their district line preferences to ensure their neighborhoods are represented. 

Residents can provide input on the focus maps at the upcoming districting meetings:

  • September 12, 2023 – City Council will hold its fourth public hearing during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting to further discuss maps and the sequence of elections.
  • September 23, 2023 – The City will hold two community workshops. Residents can review focus maps with the City’s demographer and share feedback on map elements they agree or disagree with.
  • October 10, 2023 – City Council will hold its fifth public hearing during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting. The City Council will have the opportunity to select the final map and the sequence of elections, then proceed to introduce the ordinance to adopt the final map.  

Residents may continue to submit revised or new maps for City Council consideration. Paper and digital mapping tools and a video tutorial for the digital mapping tool are available on the City’s districting website at DrawIrvine.org/Draw-A-Map. The deadline to submit maps for consideration at the next public hearing is August 31. 

All draft maps submitted by community members throughout the process are processed by the City’s professional demographer and made available to the public at DrawIrvine.org/Draft-Maps.
