Irvine Police Arrest Man for Felony Animal Cruelty

The Irvine Police Department arrested Ruiang Zhang yesterday morning on felony animal abuse charges. Zhang was taken into custody after a witness saw him repeatedly kicking a five-month-old French bulldog puppy, ultimately kicking the female puppy down a flight of stairs at an apartment complex off Bowery in Irvine.

Zhang, a 22-year-old resident of Irvine, lives at the complex and shares the puppy with his live-in girlfriend. Officers took the puppy to a local veterinarian after observing that she was injured. The puppy sustained multiple broken bones in her legs and will remain in the care of the veterinarian until further notice.

Zhang was transported to Orange County Jail. This case will be referred to the Orange County District Attorney’s office for prosecution.

If anyone has any information related to this investigation, please contact Detective Larum at 949-724-7194.
