  • The City of Irvine’s Geographic Information System (GIS) team has been ranked No. 2 by PSD Citywide in their awards of the top 25 most mature public sector Geographic Information System programs in North America based on findings from the Geospatial Maturity Index Survey. The City is the first U.S. participant to earn a spot in the top three GIS programs in the history of the survey.

  • Employees in the Community Development Department have been recognized with the ‘Incorporating Innovative Technology Award’ from the Orange County Business Council at their recent “Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet” virtual awards ceremony. The City’s IrvineREADY! permitting program earned the City this award. IrvineREADY!, the entirely web-based permitting system, has facilitated more than $1 billion in investment in our region over the last year, and is the only web-based permitting system in Southern California of its kind. The IrvineREADY! platform has provided a much-needed economic lifeline to our businesses by keeping City Hall and permitting operations open in light of the pandemic.

  • Emergency Management Administrator Bobby Simmons has received the Exceptional Service Award from the California Emergency Services Association. Bobby was nominated for the honor by his colleagues at the County of Orange, and the cities of Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Aliso Viejo for his management of the Silverado Fire in October 2020 and his work in implementing a comprehensive evacuation plan for the City.  To learn more about the City's evacuation zones and ways you can prepare for an emergency, visit cityofirvine.org/prepare.
