Water Safety Challenge

Date:
Saturday, May 21, 2022 - 1:00pm

Learn about drowning prevention at the City of Irvine Water Safety Challenge. This event is held in collaboration with the nonprofit Stop Drowning Now to bring awareness to the dangers of drowning: the leading cause of accidental death in the United States for children younger than 5 years old, and the second leading cause of accidental death for kids under the age of 14.

Participate in water or on land. Stations include:

  • CPR
  • Beach Safety
  • Reach & Throw
  • Identifying Dangers  Around the Water
  • Safe Swimming Skills

The event will use the Stop Drowning Now Safety Challenge to assess water competency. Can you jump in, swim, and effectively get to safety in the water if needed? Are you equipped to help a friend or child in a dangerous situation in the pool? Join us at the Water Safety Challenge and find out.

Learn about the Safer 3 — Safer Water, Safer People, and Safer Response — and about the emergency response in and around the water.

After you take the challenge, stay and splash in the pool for recreation swim.

All participants leave with a Water Watcher badge and Water Safety Challenge certificate. The Water Safety Challenge event is free. All ages are welcome; participants 17 and younger require a parent or adult guardian be present. Registration is required. Register at yourirvine.org.
