Why am I unable to register for a class?

If you encounter a problem registering for a class, please contact us directly at 949-724-6610 so we may investigate and correct the issue.

Some common issues include:

  • Registration is not available at this time. This could be because the class is not yet open for registration or it has been canceled. A detailed message should pop up when trying to register.
  • The start date for the class may have already passed, and some classes do not allow for registration to be processed through the automated system.
  • The age requirement may not have been met. The student you are registering must be the stated age at the start of the class to enroll. If the student is the right age but you are still experiencing issues, it is possible that an incorrect birth date was put in the system.
  • Your residency doesn’t match the requirements for the program.

Can I enroll at the first meeting?

Due to the popularity of our programs, registration is required in advance. This is also necessary for quality control and fairness to those on the waiting list.

My child is not in the age range. Are there exceptions?

For our children's programs, the age ranges are firm. Instructors are aware of the developmental needs of children and tailor classes to specifically meet these needs. Allowing children that do not meet the requirements into a program could potentially cause distractions and lower the quality of the program for all participants.

If I miss a class, can I make it up?

No. The class dates are as advertised. The City does not require the instructor to allow make-ups unless the City or Instructor cancels a class meeting. In some cases, the instructor may allow a make-up.

Can I speak to an instructor?

Some instructors give permission to release a phone number or email to potential participants, which will be listed in their course description. If an instructor does not give permission, we will call them on your behalf and ask that they return your call. Call program registration at 949-724-6610 with your request or send an email to yourirvine@cityofirvine.org.

Can I go to a class if I am on the wait list?

No. You will need to wait until you receive an email from the City that contains a direct link to register once space becomes available in the class.

I do not live in Irvine, can I still sign up for classes and programs?

Yes, however, there is a $5 non-resident fee per participant, per course over $10. The fee is $10 per participant, per course for courses over $75.

What is your withdrawal and refund policy?

Cancellations, Withdrawals, and Refunds Procedure: Procedures apply to courses available through program registration, unless otherwise noted. Call 949-724-6610 or email yourirvine@cityofirvine.org with your request.

  1. Full credits/refunds are available for courses canceled by the City or Instructor.
  2. Participant requested withdrawals or transfers from a class are subject to a $5 withdrawal processing fee. The balance will remain as a credit on the participant’s account and may be applied to future registrations.
  3. Participant requested refunds will be sent in the following manner:
    • Credit card transactions will be refunded to original card used.
    • Cash and check transactions will be refunded by check.
    • (Note: Supply fees are to be paid directly to the instructor and are non-refundable.)
  4. Withdrawal Guidelines:
    • Courses meeting four or more times (one day a week): requests must be received three days prior to second class meeting. Earlier notice is preferred to accommodate wait-listed participants.
    • Courses meeting four or more times (two days a week): requests must be received by Monday of the second week of class. Courses meeting four or more times (three days a week): requests must be received by the third day of class.
    • Courses meeting four or more times (three days a week): requests must be received by the third day of class.
    • Courses meeting one to three times: requests must be received one week prior to start date.
    • Camps, Leagues and Learn to Swim*: requests must be received seven days prior to start date for the $5 withdrawal fee to apply. Requests received between one and six days prior to the start date will be processed minus 50% of the enrollment fee, unless otherwise noted. Requests received on or after start date are not permitted. Switching courses is considered a withdrawal of original enrollment and follows the same guidelines. *Learn to Swim requests must be made in writing to Aquatics staff 10 days prior to the start date for the $5 withdrawal fee to apply. Requests received between one and nine days prior to the start date will be processed minus 50% of the enrollment fee, unless otherwise noted; email requests to aquatics@cityofirvine.org. Contact Program Registration for all other requests at 949-724-6610 or yourirvine@cityofirvine.org.
    • Excursions or Special Events: withdrawals/refunds are not permitted.

Where is the class held and how do I get there?

Class location, room/facility, and address are listed in the details once you click on a barcode.

Will you send me a confirmation?

A transaction receipt will appear once you have completed your registration. You may email a copy of the receipt to yourself by clicking on the envelope icon at the top of your transaction receipt. You may also look up your registrations on your account at yourirvine.org.

Can I observe a class before enrolling?

Class observation is at the discretion of the instructor.

Can I take my other child to my son or daughter's class?

Generally, no. When the description states Parent Participation Required, additional children may not attend unless enrolled. This enables one-on-one parent/child participation and gives you the full benefit of the class. If unclear, call program registration at 949-724-6610.

How can I confirm my registration?

To verify enrollments, login to your account at yourirvine.org.

Why aren’t my City of Irvine Scholarship funds applying toward my registration?

If your scholarship funds are not applying toward your registration, please call the Scholarship Office at 949-724-6455 or email scholarshipoffice@cityofirvine.org.

Some common issues include:

  • Class is not eligible for scholarship use. Some classes are not eligible for scholarship such as Great Park classes, private swim lessons, leagues and private tennis lessons.
  • Class is not linked up with the scholarship funds. Occasionally, classes will not link up correctly for scholarship use. This can be fixed by City staff at the Scholarship Office.

Are classes prorated?

Classes are not prorated unless the schedule is shortened, or you are enrolled from a waitlist after the class begins.

Do I need to pay to be on the waitlist?

There is no fee to be placed on the waitlist. Payment will only be taken once a spot has become available and you receive an email with a direct link to register.

Do I have to pay at the time of registration?

Yes. All classes must be paid for in full at the time of registration.

Can I sign up my friend's child?

No. Only the parent or legal guardian may enroll a child because a liability waiver must be agreed to at time of registration.

Why am I charged a fee to withdraw from a class?

This is a processing fee. Changes in enrollments require staff time and additional printing and mailing of rosters, receipts, and in some cases calling wait lists.

What is a drop-in program or event?

Drop-in programs/events are ones that you may attend without registering in advance for.

How can I get a copy of the Inside Irvine Activity Guide?
