Missing Elderly Male Located With Help of Public

76-year-old Armando “Gabby” Vasquez, who suffers from dementia, was located with the help of the public.

Just before 1:00 a.m., Vasquez was found in good condition and reunited with his family. An alert resident spotted Vasquez on Barranca Parkway near North Lake after being shown a photo by an Irvine Police Officer. Irvine Police responded to the sighting, found Vasquez in the area, and reunited him with his family. Vasquez had been missing since 3:00 p.m. on May 4, 2021.

Caregivers for persons living in Irvine that suffer from memory loss or have a history of wandering or becoming lost, are encouraged to register with the Irvine Police Department’s Return Home Registry. The program is used in two ways:

  • If police receive a missing person report, information needed to conduct an effective search is already available to officers, saving precious time.
  • If officers locate a lost or confused person in the community, the registry can be searched to identify the person and reunite them with family.

Additional information about the Return Home Registry can be located on the Irvine Police Department website at: https://www.cityofirvine.org/irvine-police-department/return-home-registry
