City of Irvine Introduces New Feature for Online Meeting Participation

In an effort to enhance community engagement, the City of Irvine announces the launch of eComment, a new web-based feature that allows community members to participate in local government.

Using a computer, tablet, or mobile device, eComment provides citizens with an additional opportunity to easily submit comments on City Council and Orange County Great Park Board meeting agenda items without having to attend the meeting in person.

“We understand that between work, school, and family commitments, our citizens and community members cannot always attend City Council and Orange County Great Park Board meetings. In keeping with the City of Irvine’s Sunshine Ordinance, we want to make it easier for constituents to be able to share their comments with us even if they cannot be present,” said Mayor Christina Shea. “I am excited about the opportunity to increase citizen participation in our local government through this new feature.”

Comments are accepted up to two hours prior to all City Council or Great Park Board meetings. Once comments have been suspended, the City Council will receive citizens’ feedback prior to its discussion. Regular meeting agendas are available 12 days prior to the meeting.

To submit a comment via eComment and view meeting agendas, live webcasting, video recording, and minutes in a central, searchable portal, visit cityofirvine.org/ictv.
