Irvine, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2019) – A power outage caused by an electrical fire at a power substation at Jamboree and Michelson on Friday evening continues to impact Irvine residents. Southern California Edison reports just under 12,000 customers are still without power. No estimate has been provided by SCE as to when power will be restored.
A Care and Reception Center for those affected by the power outage has been moved to Northwood Community Center, 4531 Bryan Ave. The facility will be open as a cooling center from 9 a.m. 6 p.m. Cell phone charging stations will be available at the community center. Accommodations will be made for pets. Pet owners should bring food, water and other supplies for their animals. Dogs should be on a leash, and other animals should be in appropriate carriers.

“I am closely monitoring the situation with the power outage. I have been in contact with Police Chief Mike Hamel and other key staff. The City Council will provide whatever support is needed to our public safety officials. I urge residents who have power to conserve energy as Southern California Edison works to resolve this issue,” said Irvine Mayor Christina Shea.
As of Saturday morning, 17 intersections in the City are affected by the outage, down from 50 on Friday night. Additionally, 100 residents at Villa Siena Apartments on Palatine were briefly evacuated and have since been allowed to return to their homes.
The Irvine Police Department continues to patrol areas impacted by the outage. Traffic is also being monitored.
