Two people were killed and a third was taken to a local hospital Thursday after a traffic collision at Oak Canyon and Valley Oak in Irvine. The Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority responded shortly after 10 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision at the location. Upon their arrival, officers discovered two people deceased inside one of the vehicles. A third person inside the vehicle was transported to a local hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and cooperated with police.
There have been no arrests or citations in this case. The identities of the victims are being withheld until notification is made to next of kin.
Road closures as a result of the collision include northbound Valley Oak at Irvine Center Drive, westbound Oak Canyon at Sand Canyon, and both directions of Oak Canyon at Valley Oak. The closures are expected to last several hours. Employees of businesses in the area will be allowed to access their workplaces, and the Irvine Animal Care Center at 6443 Oak Canyon remains open.
