Traffic Management Study

The Irvine City Council on June 28, 2016 approved a citywide traffic management study with findings and recommendations.

The City Council directed staff to implement the following recommendations by no later than June 30, 2017:

  • Protected/permissive left-turn phasing at a minimum of six intersections to enhance signal timing and improve traffic flow.
  • Implement a citywide signal coordination agreement with Caltrans to improve signal timing and traffic progression in freeway ramp areas.
  • Accelerate planned pedestrian and bicycle detection system improvements.
  • Reach agreement with Orange County Transportation Authority to implement two new iShuttle weekday commuter routes to be operated by OCTA as an extension of the existing iShuttle program.

Also, staff was directed to develop an action plan for other near-term and long-term strategies and to provide quarterly updates to the City Council.
