City Seeks Volunteers to Assist Older Adults

IRVINE, CA (July 30, 2015) The City of Irvine is seeking individuals interested in enriching the lives of older adults by volunteering to become a Community Helper Assisting Mature Persons in Our Neighborhoods (CHAMPION). CHAMPION volunteers work to provide assistance to Irvine’s isolated seniors by acquainting them with community services and engaging in home visitation and telephone calls to increase socialization.

Qualifications for this unique volunteer opportunity include a desire to assist others, completion of an eight-week training series, completion of a background check and a one-year commitment, including attending monthly meetings with other CHAMPION volunteers.

CHAMPION volunteer orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9 from 2  to 3:30 p.m. Volunteer training sessions are held weekly from September 16 through November 18 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.  All meetings are held at the Lakeview Senior Center, 20 Lake Road, Irvine.
