Honoree

The City of Irvine appreciates the service of the following honoree:

Military Memorial
Sean Horn
U.S. Marine Corps
Lance Corporal Sean Horn was born June 27, 1984, in the Los Angeles suburb of Lakewood and grew up in Irvine. He played Little League Baseball and attended Rancho San Joaquin Middle School. Shortly after graduating with honors from Irvine's Creekside High School, he decided to pursue his passion and became a Marine, like his grandfather. One of his reasons was that he wanted to become a better man for his family. Sean loved the outdoors, surfing, deep-sea fishing, and camping. He also had an eye for the fine arts. Scattered around the family home are bowls he made for his mother in pottery class; most are green, his favorite color. He had a good sense of humor and was always trying to get a laugh out of someone who was feeling down. Sean was fluent in French and spent many summers in his mother's homeland with her family. Sean was an engineer equipment operator assigned to Combat Service Support Group 11, 1st Force Service Support Group, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton. He had been in Iraq for four months before he died June 19, 2004 in Camp Taqaddum, about 150 miles northwest of Baghdad. Sean was awarded the National Defense Medal, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Bronze Star.
