Christmas Tree Recycling
Give your tree new life after the holidays by having it recycled. The City of Irvine, in partnership with Waste Management of Orange County, is offering free curbside collection for discarded trees from December 26 through January 18.
Residents with curbside recycling should place tree(s) out at the curb on their designated collection day. In order to be picked up, trees must be free of all decoration, including lights, tinsel, ornaments, and stands. Trees should not be in a bag or any plastic covering, and trees taller than six feet should be cut in half.
Residents of multi-family residential complexes are invited to drop their trees off at Sunset Environmental, at no cost, from December 26 through January 19.
Collected trees will be chipped and turned into mulch for reuse as alternative daily cover, which is the cover material placed on the active face of a landfill at the end of each day to protect against fires, odors, blowing litter and scavenging.
