New Officers Sworn In

9/16/2013

On Monday, September 16, 2013, Chief Maggard swore in Police Officers Heather Phillips and Brain Sharp.  Family, friends and Department personnel were on hands to welcome the officers who are new to Irvine but not to law enforcement.  Officer Phillips comes to Irvine from the Costa Mesa Police Department and Officer Sharp comes to us from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Officer Phillips started her career in law enforcement with the City of Costa Mesa in 2003.  During her time there she has worked as a patrol officer, a training officer and as part of the South Coast Plaza Shopping Center Detail.  She is also a Police Olympian, winning bronze medals in woman’s singles tennis in 2006 and 2007.  Officer Phillips is a graduate of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.  Prior to becoming a police officer, she worked for the City of Huntington Beach in Search and Rescue for five years.  She was also a volunteer for police and fire explorer program which was designed to introduce teens and young adults into those professions.  In 2002, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and a Minor in English from Palm Beach Atlantic College in West Palm Beach Florida.

Officer Sharp joins Irvine after working as a Jail Deputy from 2012-2013 at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD).  Officer Sharp graduated from the RCSD and was elected as their squad team leader.  Prior to becoming an officer, he worked in service at the Ponte Winery in Temecula.  Officer Sharp graduated California Baptist University in Riverside with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology.  During his time in college he was a stand-out athlete on the University’s baseball team.  He was selected as the Golden State Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2010 and was nominated multiple times as an All-American player.  Officer Sharp transitioned from college baseball and was drafted to play for the Pittsburgh Pirates Minor League Affiliate (State College Spikes) in Pennsylvania.
