Irvine Police Department to Participate in National “Click it or Ticket Campaign”
The Irvine Police Department has joined other California law enforcement agencies to support the “Click it or Ticket” traffic safety campaign which runs May 20 through June 2. “Click it or Ticket” debuted in California in 2005. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, the State’s seatbelt usage rate has increased from 92.5% in 2005 to 96.6% in 2011.
This year, in addition to patrol and traffic officers paying particular attention to seatbelt use, additional officers funded by an OTS, Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant will also be deployed to focus on seatbelt violations.
The minimum fine for an adult seatbelt violation in California is $142 and up, and a minimum fine of $445 for not properly restraining a child under 16 years of age.
