CERT Graduates Another 32 Irvine Residents
On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, the Irvine Police Department’s Emergency Management Bureau held a graduation ceremony for its most recent Community Emergency Response Team members (CERT). Thirty-two Irvine residents became the City’s newest CERT members. The event was hosted at Orange County Fire Station #6. Public Safety Assistant Frank Southern coordinated the classes in which residents were taught emergency preparedness, first aid, CPR and how their roles will be important in case of a natural disaster or emergency in the City of Irvine. Several of the program’s courses are presented in partnership with the Orange County Fire Authority. The final exercise activities included putting out a live fire, cribbing, triage, search and rescue and a final CERT test. On hand for the graduation were Lieutenant Whalen, Volunteer Howard Regent, OCFA Division Chief Moore, OCFA Battalion Chief McKeown and OCFA Captain Spencer.
