Irvine Police DARE Unit and University High School Host Annual Basketball Challenge

On Saturday, March 23, 2013, the Irvine Police Department basketball team took on the Orange County Fire Authority’s basketball team at an event sponsored by the Irvine Police Department’s DARE unit at University High School.

It was a great turn out for both teams as friends, family, and DARE students cheered on their favorite players.  The match up couldn’t have been any closer.  Neck and neck throughout the game, the final score was 56-53, police.  Although one shot separated them on the court, the two teams were together all the way in their mission to benefit the community.  The Second Harvest Food Bank collected non-perishable food items at the door and Team Kids, set up a snack bar to keep the fans in popcorn and cotton candy.

Nearly 100 pounds of food was collected and Team Kids made over $400 that will go directly back into their programing on school campuses. The half-time entertainment was a three-point shootout between area high schools. Gold medal honors went to University High School for the girls and Woodbridge the boys.

Thanks to all the DARE families and fans that made the night a fun and meaningful time for so many!
