Chief Maggard Swears in Irvine’s Two Newest Officers


On Monday, September 24, 2012, Chief Maggard swore in Irvine's two newest officers, Matthew Andrade and Crystal Norbut, during a ceremony held at City Hall.  The two graduated from the Golden West Academy on September 21st. Friends, family members and new coworkers attended to congratulate the new officers and welcome them to the Irvine Police Department.

Officer Andrade joins Irvine after serving for the past five years as a Deputy Probation Officer for the County of Los Angeles.  Officer Andrade is also a certified EMT.  He has earned Associates of Arts degrees in Fire Science, Administration of Justice and Political Science, and also holds a Bachelor’s degree from California State, Bakersfield in Criminal Justice.

In addition to the success of graduating from the police academy, Officer Norbut has the honor of making history there as the first woman to ever win the "Top Shot" firearms award for marksmanship. Officer Norbut was also on the Dean’s Honor List at University of California, Irvine where she graduated with a double major in Criminology, Law and Society and Fine Arts.
