First Annual Tournament of Heroes Charity Softball Game
On Sunday, September 9, 2012, the Irvine Police Department hosted the first Annual 9/11 Tournament of Heroes Charity Softball Event at Bill Barber Memorial Park. The event was held in partnership with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), military personnel from Camp Pendleton and Team Kids.
In the first game, members of the Irvine Police Department lost a close 12 to 11 contest against the OCFA. The second game ended in a high scoring match between the OCFA and members of the Marine Corps. The City of Irvine’s Mobile Recreation vehicle was on-hand with games and activities for kids.
Approximately $4,000 was raised to benefit the Semper Fi Fund, which provides financial support for wounded veterans and their families. The event also supported Team Kids mission to inspire young people to become responsible citizens with a passion for community service.
