Rotary Club Public Safety Partnership Award Presented
On Wednesday, August 1, 2012, a pair of “good Samaritans” received the Public Safety Partnership Award presented by the Irvine Police Department and the Rotary Club of Irvine.
In late June, the awardees heard a woman screaming when she saw a man rummaging through the purse she left her car at a shopping center. Police officers were summoned and while they were en route the good Samaritans chased the suspect as he fled on a bicycle. The men eventually caught up to the suspect and detained him until officers arrived at the scene.
Later, the suspect pled guilty to the crime and is currently serving his sentence at the Orange County Jail. Officer Goodbrand presented the details of the case to members of the Rotary Club during their quarterly breakfast. Rotary Club President Lucy Walther co-presented the award with Officer Goodbrand.
Also attending the breakfast award ceremony were Chief Maggard, Deputy Chief Hamel, Commander Hare, Special Assistant to the Chief Jung and Senior Public Safety Assistant Knight.
