Officer Tanabe Named Employee of the Quarter

On Tuesday, April 17, 2012, Officer Kyle Tanabe was honored as the Irvine Police Department Employee of the Quarter by the Exchange Club of Irvine during a luncheon at the Irvine Marriott.  Chief Maggard, Deputy Chief Noble, Commander Hare, Lieutenant Allan, Sergeants Russell and Wolf, and Detective Cherney were all on hand to congratulate Officer Tanabe.

Officer Tanabe was recognized for his outstanding observational arrests.  During the past quarter, he made a dozen arrests, nine of which were made based on his own observation of criminal activity.  The number of arrests, although more than double the average, doesn’t begin to tell the story.  Officer Tanabe’s vigilant patrol of his area and tenacious investigation of criminal activity has taken multiple felons off the streets, including a parolee at large and several drug offenders.

In addition to the criminals taken into custody, Officer Tanabe’s efforts have led to the seizure of several different narcotics including cocaine base, methamphetamine, and heroin.  He has also been responsible for the seizure of over $30,000 dollars in drug money, and multiple firearms including a loaded assault rifle.  It is safe to say that that Officer Tanabe’s efforts over the past quarter have made Irvine an even safer community.

Officer Tanabe was hired in 2009; he is a graduate of the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy and has worked primarily in patrol for the past three years.  Recently, he has been selected to participate in a Directed Enforcement Team, focusing on the apprehension of vehicle burglary suspects.

Congratulations to Officer Tanabe for this well-deserved recognition!
