Community Safety Expo – A Hit with Kids and Adults

On Saturday, March 26, 2011, Irvine Police Personnel participated in the Orange County Great Park’s first Community Safety Expo.  The expo was set up along the Great Park’s timeline, near the balloon.  Community members were able to walk through and around a variety of emergency response vehicles, speak to law enforcement and fire personnel, and see demonstrations. Of course, the highlight of the afternoon was the canine demonstration!  Always a favorite, both police canine officer “Rudy” and the Orange County Fire Authority’s search and rescue canine performed for the crowd.

Kids also rode their bicycles through a simulated street course, had the opportunity to try on police SWAT gear and climb onboard the SWAT rescue vehicle. Parents were able to pick up important emergency preparedness information and tour the Irvine Police Department’s award winning Mobile Communications Vehicle.
