Fatal Traffic Collision

IRVINE, CA – A male pedestrian has died from his injuries after being struck by a vehicle while lying in the roadway.

At approximately 12:10 a.m. today, Jan. 29, 2015, the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to a traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The collision occurred on Alton Parkway near the Lake Road intersection.

Witnesses reported that a male was lying in the westbound lanes of traffic on Alton Parkway east of Lake Road prior to the collision. A vehicle occupied by two adults struck him on the road.

OCFA treated the male Irvine resident in his 40s for serious, life-threatening injuries and transported him to an area hospital. At the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries sustained in the traffic collision.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle remained at the scene and impairment on part of the driver does not appear to be a factor. No arrests have been made.

IPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the traffic collision and the circumstances surrounding the reason the male was in the roadway. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call IPD Detective Cherney at 949-724-7024.
