Victims in Fatal Traffic Collision Identified

Irvine, Calif. (July 1, 2017) – The victims who were killed in a fatal traffic collision at Harvard Avenue and Michelson Drive early Saturday morning have been identified, the Orange County Coroner’s Office has confirmed.

Kasean Herrera, 23, of Irvine was driving the 2014 Hyundai Elantra involved in the crash. Jeremy Shankling, 24, of Los Angeles was a passenger in the Hyundai.

Just after 3 a.m. Saturday, July 1, the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to the scene of a traffic collision at Harvard Avenue and Michelson Drive.

When they arrived at the scene, IPD and OCFA found a 2015 Infiniti Q50 on fire. OCFA was able to quickly extinguish the blaze. The male driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Herrera and Shankling were pronounced dead at the scene. Two female occupants of the Hyundai sustained critical injuries and were transported to the hospital.

As of 4 p.m., roadways were expected to be reopened within the hour.
