Two killed, three injured in traffic collision

Irvine, Calif. (July 1, 2017) – Just after 3 a.m. Saturday, July 1, the Irvine Police Department (IPD) and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) responded to the scene of a traffic collision at Harvard Avenue and Michelson Drive. Two men have been pronounced dead in the two-vehicle crash, while three others sustained critical injuries.

When they arrived at the scene, IPD and OCFA found a 2015 Infiniti Q50 on fire. OCFA was able to quickly extinguish the blaze. The male driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The male driver and a male occupant of the other vehicle involved in the collision, a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two female occupants sustained critical injuries and were also transported to the hospital.

The Irvine Police Department is withholding the identity of the victims in this case pending notification of next of kin.

Southbound Harvard Avenue is closed between Coronado and Michelson Drive as the investigation continues. Northbound Harvard Avenue is closed from University Drive to Coronado. Westbound Michelson Drive is closed from Parkside to Harvard Avenue; eastbound Michelson is being directed onto southbound Harvard Avenue.
