Police Search for Suspect in Armed Robbery at Irvine Apartment

Irvine, Calif. (May 27, 2017) – The Irvine Police Department on Saturday responded to the 600 block of Hayes after a 62-year-old resident reported she had been robbed inside her apartment.

On Saturday at approximately 9:35 a.m., a female resident returned from a short walk in her neighborhood. Immediately after she entered her residence, an armed gunman came in through an unlocked door and demanded cash and the jewelry she was wearing. The victim complied, and the suspect then fled in an unknown direction. The suspect took gold jewelry and $300 cash from the victim.

Irvine Police arrived on the scene just minutes later and conducted an extensive search of the area; however, the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s with short black hair and medium build. He was wearing a black-and-red striped sweatshirt and black pants. The victim stated she believes the suspect followed her home from her walk.

The investigation in this case is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Irvine Police Detective Keith Herter at 949-724-7183.
