Man Arrested For Residential Burglary

Irvine, CA (Aug. 28, 2015): The Irvine Police Department (IPD) has arrested a man for illegally entering a home and stealing property early this morning. Brendan Taylor Filice, 18, Irvine, was arrested for residential burglary.

At approximately 5:15 a.m., IPD officers responded to a residential burglary call at an Irvine home. The female victim was sleeping and awoke to discover an unknown male suspect standing in her bedroom stealing an item from her nightstand. The victim woke her husband, who verbally confronted the suspect. The suspect then fled the home through the back door. Two sleeping children were also in the home at the time.

IPD officers quickly set up a perimeter in the area and began a search for the suspect. During the investigation, it was determined that he had stolen an iPhone and a laptop in a black backpack from the victims’ home.

At approximately 8:15 a.m., an IPD officer observed a subject matching the description of the suspect. The suspect was in the area of the residential burglary and walked out of some bushes wearing a black backpack. When the officer contacted Filice, he was found in possession of the victims’ stolen property. The suspect was arrested at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information or who thinks they have been a victim is encouraged to contact IPD Detective Keith Herter at 949-724-7183.

Detectives are working to determine how the suspect gained entrance to the home. IPD reminds community members to always close and lock home windows, garages and doors, even when the residence is occupied.  Locks, latches, and window charley bars can help provided added home security at a low cost.
