City Council Declares Feb. 11 “Irvine 2/11 Marine Battalion Day”

IRVINE, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2016):  The Irvine City Council at its Jan. 26 meeting proclaimed Feb. 11 “Irvine 2/11 Marine Battalion Day.” The City adopted the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in 2007 and supported the development of the 2/11 Marine Adoption Committee.

The 2/11 Marines, based at Camp Pendleton, is composed of approximately 750 active Marines and sailors. The primary mission of the 2/11 is to provide direct support to the 5th Marine Regiment in time of conflict. The troop has previously been deployed to Kuwait and Iraq.

The Adoption Committee acts as a liaison between the City, the Marines and the community. In partnership with the City, the Adoption Committee provides important services for Marines and their families, including hosting a holiday toy drive, collecting and distributing “Welcome Home” packages and organizing fundraisers.
