On May 24, 2004, at approximately 1715 hours, officers from the Irvine Police Department were dispatched to Shady Canyon, east of Bonita Canyon, reference the report of an injury traffic collision involving a 1991 Toyota pickup and a bicycle.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota pickup, driven by Alfredo Aceves of Santa Ana, had been traveling westbound on Shady Canyon, east of Bonita Canyon. The bicyclist, a 55-year-old male from Irvine, was also traveling westbound on Shady Canyon, in the right shoulder. As the driver of the Toyota approached the bicyclist, the bicyclist turned in front of the Toyota and was struck.

No arrests or charges have been made at this time. The collision is still under investigation. The name of the bicyclist is being withheld pending notification of next to kin.
