That’s right! No push-ups, no running, and none of those irritating drill instructors yelling at you. With this academy, you receive 13weeks of fantastic insight and information without all of the sweat! The Irvine Community Police Academy (CPA) is currently seeking applicants.

As part of the Irvine Police Department’s community policing effort, the Community Police Academy is an educational program designed to provide participants with real-life, hands-on experience about the everyday operations of our department. Participants don’t just sit in a classroom either; much of the instruction involves hands-on experience! Just some of the courses include:

• Arrest & Control Response
• Special Weapons Unit Demonstration
• Emergency Vehicle Operations
• Firearms
• Orange County Jail Tour

CPA SCHEDULE & LOCATION

The Community Police Academy is a 13-week program. Classes are held each Wednesday from 6:15pm to 9:30pm. Classes are held at the Irvine Police Department. The class culminates the 13-week program with a formal graduation banquet and ceremony that family and friends can attend. The next Academy begins in September 2007.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age for participation is 21.
Participants must live or work within the City of Irvine.
Participants cannot have any prior felony convictions and no misdemeanor arrests within one year of application.
A background check, including fingerprinting, will be conducted on all applicants. Prior police contacts and arrests will be reviewed and considered in the screening process.
